Detroit Cop Charged With Assaulting Mother of His Children While in Uniform

A Detroit police officer faces charges of domestic assault involving a 26-year-old St. Clair Shores woman who is the mother of his children.

The incident happened on Jan. 26 around 11:30 p.m. in the 15300 block of Schaefer in northwest Detroit.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office alleges that Justice Calvin, 31, while in uniform, followed the victim to the parking lot of a nursing home, exited his vehicle, pointed his firearm at her, then forcefully removed her from the passenger side of her car and physically assaulted her.

Calvin, who is no longer with the department, turned himself in at the Detroit Police Department’s 2nd Precinct on Tuesday.

He faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearm, larceny from a person, and domestic violence.

He was arraigned Tuesday in Detroit's 36th District Court before Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. He was released on a $50,000 personal bond with conditions that he wear a GPS tether and have no contact with the victim.
