Babysitter Leroy Metoyer III was sentenced Monday in Wayne County Circuit Court to 25 to 50 years in the fatal beating of a 1-year-old girl named Justice on Nov. 29, 2022.
He had been caring for the girl, the child of a friend at a home in the 19200 block of Lancashire Street in northwest Detroit.
"He left no skin on her body untouched by his hands or his abuse," Tamika Smith, the girl's great aunt said, according to the Detroit News. "Every part of her body, from the top of her head to the soles of her feet, there were bruises everywhere. You put those bruises there, LeRoy, you tormented my little niece. You did not give her the chance to live."
Judge Wanda Evans sentenced him to 25 years to 50 years for second-degree murder, and 15 years to 30 years for first-degreee child abuse. The sentences will run concurrently.
