Detroit News: Wayne County Official Expected to Be Charged With Lying to FBI

Saif Alsenad, a Wayne County official whose job was to advocate for the county’s political agenda in Lansing, has resigned amid the likelihood he'll soon be charged with lying to FBI agents investigating a bribery scandal involving former Inkster Mayor Patrick Wimberly, The Detroit News reports, citing anonymous sources.

Robert Snell of The News reports:

The case is focused on whether the 33-year-old Dearborn Heights man lied to FBI agents about his awareness of bribes Wimberly received while Alsenad worked as the mayor's executive assistant in 2022 and 2023, the sources said.

The probe is not believed to involve allegations of wrongdoing during Alsenad's tenure with Wayne County, and it is not believed that he personally benefited from any bribes, the sources said.
